Artist's Statement

We love creating things.  Creating things is a passion.  The immense satisfaction that comes from completing a project is among our greatest motivators.  Photography provides a wonderful vehicle for this creative process.

Cathy and I draw our inspiration from the world around us.  There is something wonderful and exciting about capturing the essence of a time and place. We love taking photographs and the process of creating powerful images. But more importantly we are creating memories and experiences. Our goal is to capture these experiences in a way that will allow us to relive them later and to share them with others. 

Our recent work, which we call Digital Abstractions, has become more introspective and interpretational.  The starting point is always a superbly crafted photographic image.  Then, through the use of various digital media we explore a vision of the image that draws strongly upon color, form and essence.  Whether it is a flower, landscape or figure, we try and approach it with a fresh vision to create something original and exciting.

About Mark and Cathy

Mark and Cathy Pemberton live in Martinez California with their three cats.  In addition to a lifelong passion for photography, both have had extended careers in the biotech and health care industries.  After a successful career in biotech, Mark retired from the corporate world in 2006 to pursue photography full time.  Cathy continues to work as a financial analyst.  Their passion for travel has lead them to photograph wildlife and scenery in locations such as the Southwest, Alaska, Canada and Iceland.
